The faeries of the Quinton Old Rectory garden trail are finally moving into their new homes just in time for Christmas. And we’re planning a very special charity open garden event in their honour, on Sunday 13 December.
The event is raising funds for two related causes; the Twins Trust Research Centre for Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome and the Neonatal Unit at the Lister hospital Stevenage.
The Faerie trail will be dotted with faerie homes crafted from materials the faeries have repurposed from the garden. They’re big fans of fairy lights (of course), so expect their trail to be fittingly decorated for the festive season. Our resident poet David Oram will be on hand to share his wonderful storytelling poems about the inhabitants of the trail, bringing to life faeries Knotweed, Thyme, Tick & Tock, Sprout & Radish and their many faerie and animal friends.
We’ll be arranging a festive treasure hunt around the garden for young visitors; the faeries have sorted prizes for successful entrants, and a wishing tree onto which you can hang your very special wishes for 2021.
The garden itself retains plenty of seasonal interest in December, and with less distraction from foliage and flowers, the garden’s sculptural elements, structural grasses and intuitive design really stand out.
Our pop-up café will be open for hot drinks and seasonal snacks – gingerbread, mince pies and stollen to bolster visitors against the cold. And what could nicer than enjoying a hot chocolate whilst warming your hands at the fire pit? We’ll also be selling a select range of gifts and plants perfect for anyone with a little Christmas shopping still to do by that stage.
