Celebrating Spring Meditation

  • Old Rectory Preston Deanery Road Northampton, England, NN7 United Kingdom (map)

The Spring Equinox; day and night are poised and balanced, but for us in the Northern Hemisphere, about to tip over on the side of light.

Equinox – from the Latin “equal night” – falls at the moment that the sun is exactly above the equator – a point of equilibrium as the sun continues its journey northwards.

Traditionally, the spring equinox is a festival sacred to dawn, youth, the morning star and the east. The Saxon goddess, Eostre (from whose name we get the direction East and the holiday Easter) is a dawn goddess. Just as the dawn is the time of new light, so the vernal equinox is the time of new life. There are signs of this everywhere – trees in early bud, lambs in the fields, daffodils nodding on the verges.

Spring is a perfect excuse for meditation; a springboard from which we can harness all our inward reflections of the winter months and transform them towards action as we’re encouraged by the longer days and warmer weather to shift our energies to an external perspective.

Our Celebrating Spring meditation will combine indoor and outdoor meditation practices, based around the glass and oak house in the centre of Quinton Old Rectory garden. After welcome drinks, we’ll start with some gentle yoga to wake up our bodies and shake off the winter before taking some time outside to tune into nature and find signs of the re-emergence of life. We’ll return to the glass house for a seated practice focused on opening our hearts and minds, gently channelling our energies towards our intentions for the season ahead. The event will end with a light lunch and time to chat to your fellow meditators.

The cost of the event is £15, including lunch. Profits from the event will be donated to Mind to support people with mental health issues. Please email us at hello@garden4good.co.uk to reserve a space.
