The solstice marks the point that the “sun stands still” at its most southerly point before it begins its 6 month journey north again, officially at around 4am on 22/12 but as that would be an unsociable time for a meditation, we’re planning to meet a few hours beforehand!
The solstice of course is the shortest day of the year for us in the Northern Hemisphere (7 hours 49 minutes) and the first day of astronomical winter. It’s been an ancient day of celebration since pagan times. We’re planning to celebrate 2019 style with a combination of indoor and outdoor meditations run by Raj Rajani founder of Yogada yoga studio, followed by festive treats around the firepit.
The winter solstice also goes by the name of the hibernal solstice, and we’ll be embracing the idea of wintry hibernation as an opportunity to go inwards and reflect, as well as considering the blessings of the seasons passed and how we might approach the new year.
Tickets are £15 each and places strictly limited to 12.
